Deep learning application to identify algal cells in freshwater

Microscopy method has been conventionally used to identify algal cells in freshwater. However, it may be quite labor-intensive and time-consuming work and cause subjectivity issues as the results appear to be dependent on the observers.

Therefore, a more convenient method in conjunction with the microscopy is needed. Deep learning techniques can be considered as a promising way to identify algal cells. It can be designed for an automatic algal cell monitoring system.
